Onimusha: Way of the Sword for Nintendo Switch 2 is a new entry in Capcom’s legendary series, taking players back to the dark world of Edo-period Japan. At the center of the story is the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who must make his way through Kyoto as supernatural events plunge the city into chaos and an army of demonic Genma creatures emerges. The adventure combines the historical atmosphere of Japan with samurai drama and supernatural fantasy, transforming the streets of Kyoto into a dangerous world where a new threat may be waiting around every corner.

The heart of the game is its dynamic close-quarters combat system, built around precise timing, blocking, dodging, parrying and rapid counterattacks. Musashi must fight numerous demonic enemies, explore the streets and surroundings of Kyoto, meet unusual allies and face spectacular bosses. As the adventure progresses, the story reveals more about Musashi and the world around him, combining dramatic moments with memorable characters and unexpected situations. The game’s visual style draws inspiration from Japanese cinema, while Musashi’s appearance is based on the likeness of legendary actor Toshiro Mifune.

Combat requires more than simply attacking. Players must carefully study enemy behavior, recognize attack patterns and choose the right moment to defend or counter. Powerful bosses have their own movesets and can force players to learn their patterns through repeated encounters. Defeating a particularly dangerous opponent therefore feels like the result of mastering the combat system rather than simply increasing the hero’s strength.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version brings Capcom’s new samurai adventure to Nintendo’s hybrid console. The game features modern visuals powered by the RE Engine, detailed environments, cinematic sequences and dynamic sword fights while retaining the recognizable atmosphere of the Onimusha series. The Nintendo Switch 2 version was released on September 4, 2026.

Game-Key Card: the physical card contains the key required to launch the game rather than the complete game data. An internet connection and sufficient free storage on the Nintendo Switch 2 internal memory or a microSD Express card are required to download the game data the first time you start it. Once the game has been downloaded, it can be played without an internet connection, but the Game-Key Card must remain inserted in the console when you play.
